Net metering is available to consumers who generate renewable energy with generators located behind the consumer's service meter. Consumers can use these generators to save on their electric bill.

If the consumer generates more energy than they are consuming at their home or business during that same billing period, OPPD will buy that energy at the rate specified in Rate 483 - Net Metering Service Rider.

OPPD had 99 net metering-qualified facilities with total generating capacity of 676 kilowatts as of Dec. 31, 2017. In 2017, the total estimated amount of energy produced by these customer-generators was 915,253 kilowatt-hours (kWh), and the net kWh received from them was 39,793 kWh.

OPPD began offering net metering on Sept. 1, 2009. OPPD publishes this annual report as required by Nebraska Revised Statutes 70-2005.
