Public power is defined by a commitment to community service. It is a proud part of Nebraska’s history, serving the entire state since 1946.
On Friday, June 16, OPPD will engage in a meaningful day of volunteer activities coordinated with United Way and other community partners. These efforts bring to life OPPD’s core values of having a passion to serve, honoring our communities and caring about each other.
Nearly 100 OPPD employees will serve more than 400 volunteer hours on a variety of projects. Projects include, but are not limited to:
- No More Empty Pots: Florence Community Center, 30th & Bondesson St., Omaha, 2 – 4 p.m. Volunteers will maintain the center’s garden beds, which provide produce to local food banks and shelters.
- The Hope Center for Kids: 2200 N. 20th St., Omaha, various shifts, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Volunteers will participate in outdoor trimming and landscape maintenance, cleaning inside the facility and other needed assistance.
- Lutheran Family Services: 1941 S. 42 St., suite 402, Omaha, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Volunteers will help welcome a refugee family by shopping for household items and setting up their new home.
- United Way of the Midlands: 2201 Farnam St., Omaha, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Volunteers will quality check literacy kits to be distributed to more than 460 children on June 21, United Way of the Midlands’ Day of Action.
- City of Blair: Volunteers will participate in public park cleanup efforts.
- Syracuse Food Pantry: Employees from OPPD’s Syracuse Service Center will donate and deliver popular non-perishable items to area churches’ pantries.
OPPD’s Day of Giving is held in conjunction with the American Public Power Association’s Public Power Day of Giving.
