OPPD employees honoring community

October is Public Power Month. Did you know, Nebraska is the only state in the country where all residents get electricity from public power utilities or cooperatives???j

Public power is defined by a commitment to community service. It is a proud part of Nebraska’s history, serving the entire state since 1946.

On Friday, June 16, OPPD will engage in a meaningful day of volunteer activities coordinated with United Way and other community partners. These efforts bring to life OPPD’s core values of having a passion to serve, honoring our communities and caring about each other.

Nearly 100 OPPD employees will serve more than 400 volunteer hours on a variety of projects. Projects include, but are not limited to:

  • No More Empty Pots: Florence Community Center, 30th & Bondesson St., Omaha, 2 – 4 p.m. Volunteers will maintain the center’s garden beds, which provide produce to local food banks and shelters.

  • The Hope Center for Kids: 2200 N. 20th St., Omaha, various shifts, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Volunteers will participate in outdoor trimming and landscape maintenance, cleaning inside the facility and other needed assistance.

  • Lutheran Family Services: 1941 S. 42 St., suite 402, Omaha, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Volunteers will help welcome a refugee family by shopping for household items and setting up their new home.
